Journey of Love

We continue the series on the Early Church and its struggles, conflicts, and joys. At the heart of the Apostle Paul’s first letter to the Church in Corinth is today’s scripture reading. It is often referred to as “The Love Chapter.” But this love, Paul uses the word agape here, is more than just love between two people. It is a universal love that reaches out to ALL people. It is a “royal love” that encompasses “loving the Lord with all your heart, mind, and soul and loving your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37).  It is a model for how we live the life of Christ, “love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12). And it is a love that is the indispensable ingredient for each of the spiritual gifts. Love is part of all these things. It is one of the highest, foundational spiritual gifts that we are given. And the source of this love is the indwelling of the Spirit of God that makes possible the flow of the love of Christ into the life of every believer.

Scripture References: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13
