Bonus Episode. We are in the fourth episode of a six-episode series called Reversal and Restoration. We continue to explore how the promises of God are fulfilled in the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus through the lens of the Gospel of Luke. In this bonus episode, we explore the scripture reading for Ash Wednesday, following the Transfiguration. It challenges those who would be Jesus' disciples then and now, and how they must reckon with how identifying with Jesus might place them outside of the boundaries of what is acceptable to a world not oriented toward the will of God. How are you places outside the boundaries of the world? How are you countercultural?
This series continues to explore how the promises of God are fulfilled in the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus through the lens of the Gospel of Luke. Yet those promises are not always what we expect or think that we need. Instead, Jesus’ mission and ministry brings with it controversy, reversal, and confusion. Ultimately, his mission prepares his disciples including us to become apostles sharing the Good News of love and grace to ALL people in both word and deed.
