A Banquet of Mercy

A Banquet of Mercy

We are in the second week of a six-week series called Lost and Found. We continue to explore how the promises of God are fulfilled in the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus through the lens of the Gospel of Luke. In this episode, we explore the last in another trilogy of parables. This parable brings us images of Willy Wonka, Scrooge, and Marley. It also takes us down a slippery slope about heaven, hell and salvation. In this parable the tables are turned. What does it mean to be a son or daughter of Abraham and a brother or sister with Jesus? For the rich man he can't image a world where social stratification does not apply. All he can think of is demanding help even from the man he deeply injured. How is Jesus calling us into God's grace and mercy? How is Jesus calling us to extend God's table?

Scripture References: Luke 16:19-31

In this six-week series, we continue to explore how the promises of God are fulfilled in the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus through the lens of the Gospel of Luke. We look at some of the parables of Jesus as well as his death and resurrection. These stories are mixed with immense grief, loss, celebration and joy. We discover that the very character of the Triune God is about restoration and reconciliation of relationships. For what has been lost has been found.
