Promise of Overcoming

This is week 2 in a six-week series called, "Returning to the Promise." Like us, faith in God and in God’s promises were a struggle for Abraham. Abraham wondered why Sarah was still barren. Would he ever have an heir, land to pass along to future generations? God told him it would happen, but why was it taking so long? Abraham doubted. Abraham challenged God time and time again. God knew that Abraham struggled in his faith. God knew what was on Abraham’s heart. Abraham’s laments moved him to a stronger faith and more reliance on God’s promise. It doesn’t seem logical, does it? That our faith grows stronger in times of barrenness, lament, and doubt?

Scripture References: Genesis 15:1-6

From Series: "Returning to the Promise"

"Returning to the Promise" is a seven-week series based on stories from the Old Testament. Often, we are told that the Old Testament is full of judgement, wrath, and anger. But the Old Testament describes the very character of a loving God who continues to return to the faithful promise of unconditional and ongoing love for all of creation. It is why we first ground ourselves in "God is love" from 1 John 4.
