This week, we are in the fourth week of a six-week series called, “Beguiled By Beauty,” based on Wendy Farley’s book of the same name. In this series, we will explore the beauty of God’s created world as God sees it and how it leads us into a more contemplative, Christ-giving life. We will experience the Triune God through scripture, sermon, music, poetry, and visual pictures.
Today’s Psalm was written after the people had returned back to the Temple after they were scattered by the Babylonians and the Assyrians. And when they came back to Jerusalem, they praised God. But it wasn’t what they had anticipated. The Temple wasn’t the same. The people were not the same as before the exile. Worship wasn’t the same either. They struggled with finding a new identity while still celebrating their survival and return.
