Promise of Presence

Promise of Presence

Week 2 of a six-week series called “Promises Unfold.” We have heard the promises of God in previous weeks. And on some level, we know God’s promises of new possibilities, redemption, reversal, life, mercy and forgiveness, and most of all love. In today’s scripture reading from Isaiah chapter 6, we can so easily focus on this unusual vision of seraphs, snake-like winged creatures that are messengers from God, that we miss the words of Isaiah, “Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, and l live among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!” How often do we feel that self-doubt ourselves? We always seem to sit in this place of conflict within ourselves; this in-between place of self-doubt and willingness to serve, to hope, to step one foot forward in the name of Jesus. But our reluctance and self-doubt always seem to get the better of us. How do we move forward and answer God’s call of service, compassion and forgiveness?

Scripture References: Isaiah 6:1-8

From Series: "Promises Unfold"

A six-week series called Promises Unfold. In this series we explore stories from the Major and Minor Prophets. What do these scripture readings tell us about the very character of God and of humans? How do the promises of God unfold in times of suffering, conflict and chaos?
