Impurities and Grace

Impurities and Grace

Second week of a six-week series called Reversal and Restoration. We continue to explore how the promises of God are fulfilled in the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus through the lens of the Gospel of Luke. This episode explores two healing stories involving the slave of a centurion, a Roman army captain, and the son of a widow. In these stories, Jesus fails to draw insider-outsider boundary lines as religion and society dictate. He risks being considered defiled or impure in order to show compassion and give abundant life. How do we draw boundary lines between who is an insider or an outsider? What type of life is Jesus calling us into? How do you decide to do something based on obligation and honor or sharing the grace and mercy of God?

Scripture References: Luke 7:1-17

From Series: "Reversal and Restoration"

This series continues to explore how the promises of God are fulfilled in the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus through the lens of the Gospel of Luke. Yet those promises are not always what we expect or think that we need. Instead, Jesus’ mission and ministry brings with it controversy, reversal, and confusion. Ultimately, his mission prepares his disciples including us to become apostles sharing the Good News of love and grace to ALL people in both word and deed.
