4th Sunday after Epiphany
Again, Jesus comes into contact with people who are considered unclean--one a daughter of a Jewish leader, and the second, a hemorrhaging woman who is possibly a Gentile. In these stories, Jesus is not content with dispatching a miracle, but he wants to encounter people. Discipleship is not simply getting our needs met, but it is being in relationship with and being in the presence of Jesus. The challenge for us all, like Jairus and the crowd, is this question: Do we believe only in what circumstances allow, or do we believe in the God who makes all things possible?
