Reformation Sunday

Pastor:
Passage: Ephesians 2:1-10
Service Type:

This week’s sacred word is “grace.”  This word is what makes us Lutheran Protestant Christians.  It is the foundation of the Reformation and why we are a Church that is always reforming and changing.  Did you know that the word “Protestant” comes from the word “protest”?  Martin Luther believed that it was by scripture alone, grace alone, faith alone, and in Christ alone to God be the glory alone that saves us.  Therefore, our good works are our response to God’s grace through Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Martin Luther was protesting the Church’s view that it was good works that saved.  He then asked, “If we merit the forgiveness of sins by these elicited acts [good works] of ours, what does Christ provide?”  (Apology of the Augsburg Confession Article IX.)
