First week of a six-week series on the Letter to the Ephesians called “A Grace-Filled Way of Life.” Through this letter to the wider church, in and around Ephesus, which is now in present-day Turkey, we discover the real-life implications of Jesus’ life, death, resurrection and ascension. For Jesus’ death wasn’t just about forgiving us of our sins so that we could be considered clean again. His death and resurrection reconciled us back to God, each one of us individually and collectively as a community. But it is also how we are reconciled back to the larger community. At the heart of this letter is our relationship to the Triune God and each other. It reminds us that we were all adopted into God’s household and that as adopted members of this household, we too are called to behave in the same way as Christ did in life and in death - with self-giving love to others.
