HUMDINGER? HOW ABOUT A POPDINGER! You can sing and ding, but if you can’t sing – you can still ding! Join Sherry Van Lishout, Ann Carlson and probably Rachel Strong and other dinger-wanna-be’s to learn the song “Good King Wenceslas’ (who likes Worcestershire Sauce) on the chimes. Chimes look like big tuning forks with hammers on them, and when you see your note highlighted yellow on a piece of paper, you hit the air with the chime and it rings a pretty note for you. Easy and fun! Come to as many practices as you can after Fellowship on Sundays throughout November and December. Sign up sheet is on the Front Office door.

10:30 – 11:15 am on Sundays, Nov 9, 16, 23, 30, Dec 7, 14 and 21. This is for the Christmas Eve service Dec 24 at 5:30 pm.

GRAB A CUP? GRAB TWO ! – we need assistance with coffee hour. There is a sign-up sheet in the Fellowship Hall. Please consider assisting with set-up or clean-up.

HUGE THANK YOU to St. Peters for a large donation to our Weekend Backpack Program.

VETERAN’S DAY – is November 11th. A heart felt “thank you” to all of our veterans.

ENDOWMENT GRANTS – Help the Endowment Team use our Endowment Fund as effectively as possible to enhance the mission outreach of Prince of Peace. As the fund’s custodian, the team is looking for ways to help the church ministry in the community. If you would like to offer a suggestion to the Endowment Team or financially contribute, get a request form from the narthex, the church office or the website. A donation of any amount will help immensely and be much appreciated. Recently our endowment made a contribution of $1,000 to the Children’s Museum, $250 to Leathernecks of the North, and $1,000 to Praise in the Pines.

KITCHEN CLEAN UP – LAST CALL – If you’ve brought a dish to church in the last year or so and aren’t sure if you remembered to take it home – check out the table in the Fellowship Hall. There is currently quite the collection of ‘lost’ items. Claim yours today!

May the Lord Jesus Keep You

Ever faithful and true!

FUN FACT (sort of) – The following picture is of the back wall of the sanctuary. You may or may not have noticed it after receiving communion and walking back to your seat. It has been on my radar for awhile – wanting to know the purpose/meaning etc. I have asked around. The common thought is that it is covering part of the ventilation and/or speakers. Pretty sure the original answer was speakers and then newer speakers were hung from the ceiling. Whatever is behind this is no longer in use.

So then – what does it mean – who created the design? Again – I was not able to find out the answer. Since that is the case – I have taken it upon myself to give it a meaning. (Nature abhors a vacuum, Ann has issues with a blank space)

The three bottom sections represent our church – strong leadership, a committed membership, and a clear, shared purpose. The three top sections represent the Holy Trinity – above us, holding us together, ever present.

(I did ask the quilters if there were pieces made to fit inside – and there are not.)

If you have any information regarding it – please let me know. I even thought it may have been a nativity type scene to be decorated at Christmas. Dunno.

NOTE FROM ANN – This Saturday we will be celebrating the 250th Birthday of the United States Marine Corps. The actual birthday is November 10th. Burt and I will mosey down to Andy’s Pontoon Saloon and raise a beverage to our Corps on that day as well. One of the best things I have ever done in my life is to raise my hand to support and defend my country. Not just in 1984, but also in 2001. The day after the Marine Corps Birthday is Veteran’s Day. Many thanks to all who have served and who are still serving. The beauty of it is – none of us who served could have done it without all of you. G.K. Chesterton once said, “The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.” There is a lot of truth in those words.

And – keep an eye on the night sky – lots of Northern Light activity forecasted and there was a wonderful “storm” last night.

Also – I know some people are dreading the upcoming colder weather. Let me point out some fun stuff heading our way. The Glide at Boulder Junction. It is a skating trail through the woods. Ice caves at the Apostle Islands. (Named the Apostle Islands by New France historian Pierre François Xavier de Charlevoix, who renamed them after the 12 apostles (for the 12 largest islands)). Hot cocoa (with butterscotch schnapps for those so inclined). Fires in fireplaces and/or woodstoves. And hopefully this year – the snowy winter wonderland that we are used to.
