This project was initiated due to requests from several members of the congregation – if you have an idea and/or input please share!

LIVING LUTHERAN MAGAZINE – Living Lutheran is a quarterly magazine filled with interesting articles that are informative about the workings of the ELCA. Prince of Peace has subscribed to the magazine. Our copy is in the library for your perusal. Feel free to make copies of any of the articles and share with others. Chris Ebert will be sponsoring additional copies for the church.

FUN FACT – Katie Luther came to mind for our fun fact. Here are three bits of information regarding Katie. The first is a common piece of information. The other two might not be as well known.

Luther, a former monk, had not contemplated marriage. He thought his life was too endangered to risk the commitment. Yet, Luther finally agreed to marry Katie – he was 42 and she was 26. Luther thought the marriage would “please his father, rile the pope, cause the angels to laugh and the devils to weep.” Coming out of a monastic life, both Luther and Katie saw their wedding on June 13, 1525, as an act of confession and obedience to God’s act of creation. While Katie saw Luther as a liberator, Luther too found a freedom he had never known in his marriage with Katie. For this reason, Luther called Katie his Galatians. After one year of marriage, Luther wrote a friend, “My Katie is in all things so obliging and pleasing to me that I would not exchange my poverty for the riches of Croesus.”
Katie in turn was an encourager to Luther and capably treated his numerous physical ailments, as well as comforted him in his times of depression. Often she would comfort him with the Scriptures. One time, when Luther was especially depressed, Katie dressed all in black. Luther noticed and asked if she were going to a funeral, Katie replied, “you were so despondent, I thought that God had died.” Katie’s actions helped Luther again focus on his God and Savior rather than his temporary problems.
On her deathbed, Katie proclaimed, “I will cling to Christ as a burr to a top coat.”

NOTE FROM ANN: January 18 is National Winnie the Pooh Day. In case you felt like celebrating it. “O’ bother”. First picture is of the leucistic buck of Three Lakes. He was a nice surprise at the end of my day yesterday. Because yesterday was a “day”. This guy showed up and made it all better. I was leaving Faith Lutheran and he crossed the driveway in front of me. I put the van in park and “stalked” him for awhile. He was absolutely unbothered by me. The second picture is the a/c unit outside of the window near the front office. It’s my snow measurement, my weather gauge – a source of (my) amusement throughout the year. This year’s accumulation is impressive. It’s approximately 24″ now. I’d like to stick a yard stick in it but prefer to leave it undisturbed to see just how high it will go.

If you were up at daybreak this morning – we had a treat. Although the sun was not out – there was a pink glow to the air. I didn’t try to take a picture of it. Some things need to be soaked in instead of trying to capture it. Here’s to a week of soaking it in and being unbothered.
