CONGRATULATIONS! to Benjamin Braunel on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout—the highest honor in Scouting! This accomplishment reflects dedication, leadership, service, and perseverance. We celebrate this milestone and give thanks for the gifts Benjamin shares with our church family and community.
POUR MYSELF A CUP OF AMBITION – we need help! No stumbling to the kitchen required. But we could use people to ‘yawn and stretch’ their way to the Fellowship Hall to assist with coffee hour. You can tumble your way out of worship and help set up, serve and/or clean up. Your efforts would be greatly appreciated and you don’t have to work 9 to 5 to do it.
QUILTERS UNTIE! – I mean unite to tie. Tie one on with the quilting group as they assemble quilts. Meet every first and third Wed of the month 9:30 to 11:30 am.
MOVIE NIGHT – Movie nights are coming back for the summer! We are looking for sponsors for August and September. If you sponsor – you get to pick the movie! Please contact Ann if you are interested.
JULY MOVIE NIGHT – Wed, Jul 8 at 5:30 pm will be our first movie night for the summer! 1776 will be showing!
BIKE SWAP/FREE SAFETY RODEO – May 23, 11 am – 2 pm – Boulder Junction Community Center, 5392 Park Street, Boulder Junction. See flyer on bulletin board.
HEARTS ON FIRE SHIRTS – if you requested a t-shirt – the shirts have arrived. And if you are in need of a Hearts on Fire shirt – we did order extra. Shirts are $20 each.
SPECIAL BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION TODAY – Millie Mutka is turning 95! And we think that deserves a little something extra! Join us after worship in the Fellowship Hall.
GUEST PREACHER ON MAY 10 – John McHugh is the Vice President of External Relations for Kwik Trip. Prior to joining Kwik Trip in 2004, John was an instructor and principal at Aquinas High School in La Crosse. He holds degrees from the University of Saint Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota and the Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. John is a frequent presenter on the Sacred Scriptures at the Franciscan Spirituality Center and that is where he and Grant first met many years ago. He and his wife Maggie enjoy living at their log home near Sparta, Wisconsin.
DOOR SIGNS – we recently acquired plastic sign frames for posting information on our doors. Please utilize these instead of taping signs. We’ve accumulated a bit of gunk on the doors and will be trying to minimize future gunk. Available in the Front Office.
FUNERAL PLANNING – can be an uncomfortable topic, but one that may be important to you. If this is something you would be interested in (I almost said “interested in undertaking”) please contact Pastor Grant for service-related planning and Ann for bulletin layouts.
WOMEN OF THE EARTH – a heartfelt “THANK YOU” to all who made our event such a special one. From those who served to those who attended to our presenter – you created a successful event appreciated by all.
FUN FACT – we get our donuts from Kwik Trip. Pastor Grant is a big fan of their glazers, which were created in 2003. Kwik Trip was “born” 1965 in Eau Claire. And now – sixty years later – has over 900 stores. About 80% of their products are made, shipped and sold by the chain. The Johnson/Carlson household firmly believes the Pothole frozen pizza is the best frozen pizza around. They bottle over 80,000 gallons of milk a day, sourced from farms within 100 miles of La Crosse, WI. They aren’t kidding when they say “Cow to store in 24 (hours).”
NOTES FROM ANN – Fun stuff to share – Eric and Patty Rasmussen were out exploring – as they do – and sent the picture at the top to me.
” Eric and I found some Bloodroot wildflowers in the Nicolet National Forest this past weekend. We look for them every year in April. They are easier to see once the single leaf that they’re wrapped in opens up–the white flower pops amidst all the greenery. It has reddish sap that exudes from the root, especially, when cut. I read that Native Americans used the sap for dye (clothing/baskets), ceremony (body paint), and possibly medicinal purposes (such as respiratory aid and emetic to induce vomiting for various ailments). Other studies state that the sap is poisonous and a serious skin irritant. They are some of the earliest pollinators in spring.”
Interesting information and I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for Bloodroot.
This past Sunday I watched the service online. I found myself taking notes as I was sitting at the kitchen counter. Certain aspects of the sermon jumped out at me. “Spirit bandits” was one term I jotted down. One of our members has the following habit. One that I’m going to utilize as well. They take a word out of the bulletin and as worship continues – they write out thoughts related to the word or a thought that begins with a letter of the word. Here’s a made up example:
S – hepherd – Psalm 23
P – raise – to you O Christ
I – I can enter or leave via the gate
R – isen – even after Easter – we still celebrate
I – etc
T – etc
I will say – the example I saw that was done was much more indepth and the word was more of a prompt for messages received during the service. It wasn’t as simplistic as I indicated above. And after taking notes at the kitchen counter this past weekend, I’m definitely going to incorporate this. We will put out pencils for you to write on your bulletin if you desire to do the same.
Oh- and I found out about a NASA website that will spell your name based on features on earth as seen from space. The picture below is “Prince of Peace”.
May you discover flowers at your feet this week. May your May be everything you need this year.
