MOVIE NIGHT – Our next movie night is Aug 27. “How to Train Your Dragon” the 2025 version. You may have noticed our electronic sign has the movie listed as “Educating a Fire Breathing Lizard”. That is due to copyright issues. We can publicize the movie everywhere except on the sign. Weird. Then our next movie night is Sep 10 and we will be showing “Green and Gold”! What is exciting about this is we have been in touch with the director, Anders Lindwall. He might show up to a Sunday service in November and indulge us with a Q&A after worship. For now – he sent a movie poster over to us that we will use as a door prize on Sep 10. Tailgating is an option! Anders has given us permission to advertise the movie on our sign.

SOMBER FACT – I’ve been listening to a lot of hymns lately and the one that has been giving me peace is “It is Well with My Soul” by Horatio Spafford. Since I liked it so much – I decided to look into the history of it. Mr. Spafford wrote the hymn after his four daughters died in the shipwreck of the SS Ville du Havre in 1873. He would have been on the ship as well but had to stay behind to attend to business. As he traveled to meet up with his wife after the tragedy, the captain of his ship let him know when they reached the area where the wreck occurred. This moment inspired him to write the song. Horatio and his wife Anna ended up in a settlement in Jerusalem. Horatio died at the age of 59 of malaria and is buried in Jerusalem.
Since I ended up with more room – I’ll add an uplifting fun fact.
Patty Rasmussen has been practicing “Intentional Camera Movement” (ICM) in her photography for a number of years now. That is when you slow your shutter speed and then you have time to move your camera/body during the exposure. It allows you to interpret the scene with abstraction. She created a stunning picture utilizing the setting sun, a shoreline with trees and alder bushes, sun sparkles on the water and through the brush. The heart shapes were the sun rays sparkling on the water/waves. She created a perfect “Hearts on Fire” moment. So good we have asked for a print for us to display in church!
NOTES FROM ANN
Patty’s picture is at the top of this post.
The bottom two pictures are from me. One is a cool picture of storm clouds on Friday night with the almost full moon illuminating them. Then – I had to share a ‘feel good’ meme that is making the rounds. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – every time I see one of these – I think to myself “pretty sure that good news is in the Bible” and sure enough. Look at all of these verses! And that’s it for thoughts from Ann this week.
Romans 15:13 ~ May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
Romans 12:12 ~ Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
Philippians 4:4 ~ Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.
James 1:2 ~ Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds,
Galatians 5:22 ~ But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
John 16:24 ~ Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
Proverbs 17:22 ~ A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
