VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL WOW! It was our best VBS yet!! Thank you to everyone who organized it and thank you to everyone who attended. 10 kiddos under the age of 14 – and almost 30 total in attendance! There was a scrumptious potluck highlighted with pulled pork, salads, veggies and chips. And, of course dessert. Everyone got messy with s’mores and then lit up the night with sparklers.

SYNOD DEVOTIONS – please note Chris Ebert contributed the devotions this past week.
FUN FACT – there was no room for Fun Facts last week or this week in the hard copy bulletin. So I won’t add one here.
PICTURES – the picture at the top of the page was ‘swiped’ from Barb Zima – it is a picture from Sunset Lake. The picture below of the mourning dove was contributed by the Rasmussens. They rarely see mourning doves on their property. This one fed nicely with the finches while its mate stayed on the ground. The mourning dove is considered a sign of peace, hope and renewal as well as fidelity, love and devotion. They thought it was a fitting picture to share as our logo has a ‘dove of peace’ – which we now know is a mourning dove! The last picture is a snapshot from Vacation Bible School last night. Stay tuned for more pictures!
NOTES FROM ANN: I missed VBS on Wed due to an influx of family arriving today. We are expecting six people to arrive today at staggered times. With the slim possibility of two others joining at some point over the weekend.
I have a list of things I do to prepare for company. Make sure all the beds are made with fresh sheets. The two guest bathrooms are clean, stocked and ready to go. The filter fans are running in the bedrooms in case any guests aren’t good with pet dander. Towels are set out. The frig is somewhat stocked. The makings for old fashioneds are on hand (we are a ‘brandy sweet w/cherries’ household, but we do have bourbon on hand). Beer frig has cold beer. Floors are vacuumed and mopped. Most of the pet toys are put away. Quick wipe down of the microwave and cabinets. Deep cleaning goes by the wayside. The Blackstone is ready for ‘bacon and pancake’ breakfasts. It’s a whirlwind. I never have everything done in a timely manner. Most of the time, things are completed and I end up with about an hour to sit and “whew” for awhile before guests arrive.
This morning as I was doing some of the above, the phrase “I go and prepare a place for you” kept popping into my head. When I got to work, I took a closer look at the verse.
It says absolutely nothing about Jesus cleaning bathrooms or stocking the beer frig. I was imagining a frenzy of angels scurrying around, mopping the streets of gold, and rubbing fingerprints off of the pearly gates while Jesus looks for dust bunnies.
None of that. A simple statement of ‘where I am, you will be also’. Much more powerful than a clean house. Can you even imagine the joy of being right next to Jesus? The amount of love and warmth radiating over you? When I try to imagine it – I get overwhelmed.
Another message there that I can take and downsize for my own usage. The purpose of the visit is for fellowship. 99.9% of the people who visit us don’t care about a clean house – if it is done or not done. They are happy to be in the Northwoods and spending time together.
May the remainder of your summer visitors bring you joy and love.
