PRAISE THE LORD FOR ANSWERED PRAYERS! – Stacy’s liver function test came back within normal limits.
WELCOME NEW MEMBERS – Today we welcome Brian, Ashley, and Oliver Clark, Gayle Wilcox, Sara Streich, and Shelly & John Mutka as new members of Prince of Peace. Though they have already been an active part of our family, we now joyfully affirm their membership in our ministry.
ANNUAL MEETING – the annual meeting is today following worship in the Fellowship Hall. Take a potty break, grab some coffee and treats and join us.
TODAY’s MEETING – All are welcome to attend, ask questions and offer input. Only members are allowed to vote, make and/or second any motions made. If you haven’t signed in – please do so – regardless of status. Sign up sheets are outside of the Fellowship Hall.
PRAYER LIST PROCEDURE – Submit your prayer requests to the office in writing, by phone, by email or in person. If requesting prayers for someone other than yourself or an immediate family member, please obtain permission – unless the circumstances are public in nature.
GUESTS – if you are visiting us today, please sign our book at the entrance to the sanctuary.
LIBRARY UPDATE – we are still putting our library/hang out room together. Pastor Grant has lent – not given – some of his personal books to the library. Please use this as a lending library – not as a ‘take and keep’ library. This project was initiated due to requests from several members of the congregation – if you have an idea and/or input please share!
LIVING LUTHERAN MAGAZINE – Living Lutheran is a quarterly magazine filled with interesting articles that are informative about the workings of the ELCA. Prince of Peace has subscribed to the magazine. Our copy is in the library for your perusal. Feel free to make copies of any of the articles and share with others. Chris Ebert will be sponsoring additional copies for the church. Thank you Chris!
ENVELOPE PICK UP – if you requested offering envelopes – they are in the Narthex.
CHRISTIAN WOMEN’S LUNCHEON (LATE NOTICE) – reservations have been made at the new Eagle Cafe across from Trig’s. We will meet for lunch at 11:30 (as always) on Wed Jan 28. Please RSVP to me only if you are coming to Lauralee Martin at landjmartin@yahoo.com. The February hostess will be Karen Maahs.
STAYED TUNED – the Mountain of Love is coming soon!
“CAN’T BAKE, CAN’T SERVE – WHAT DO YOU DO?” [Shout out to Adam Ant] If you can’t do those two things – you can help clean up! The sign-up sheet for Fellowship Hour is in the Fellowship Hall. We are still looking for volunteers to bring food items and if baking isn’t in your skill we always need help with the clean-up process at the end of the event. Our regular ‘do-ers” really could use an assist.
LWR QUILTERS ARE ON A HIATUS! Knot even kidding. Next quilters meeting will be Feb 18,
2026. Same time, same place, same bat(ting) channel.
FUN FACT – The National Day craze is a bit much. However – I can write a story about January 25 due to National Days.
The high on Sunday will be 8 degrees. A heat wave after this week. And appropriate because Jan 25 is “Observe the Weather Day”. It is also “National Bible Sunday” or as we call it here at Prince of Peace – ‘every day’.
It is “National Opposite Day” which I highly recommend not observing during the Annual Meeting because it might send Pastor Grant, President Jerry and Treasurer Mike right over the edge.
You can indulge, after the meeting, and not at church, “National Irish Coffee Day”. It may be the perfect way to treat yourself after braving the temperatures to get to church and determine our course of action for the upcoming year.
Or consider “National Florida Day” and start dreaming of warmer temperatures or a road trip south.
It is also the day of a much lesser-known Saint Dwynwen. She is recognized as the patron saint of Welsh lovers, Dwynwen is also considered a patron of sick animals.
If none of those options grab you – consider celebrating “National Fish Taco Day” (one of our favorites). This seems more like a summer dish, but they are tasty. We have a great recipe we use.
If you’re feeling more dedicated and want to consider what you could have been doing for the whole month of January – not only is it “Dry January” where you stop alcohol consumption for a month – it is also Ginuary, a celebration of all things gin.
If you only want to commit for a week – it is snow sculpting week. Appropriate clothing is highly recommended and if you do partake – we need pictures! (Randy and Diane – we will accept sand sculpture pictures)
Our gentlemen can embrace their inner lumberjack and celebrate Manuary Month. (Honestly – when I first saw the word – I thought Burt and I would be celebrating as I read it as Manure-y).
National Bread Machine Month – though we have one and use it – I also feel like I’m cheating.
National Soup Month – which always goes well with bread. (BTW – Yum Yum Bowl has a fantastic soup menu now)
National Creativity Month, National Celebration of Life Month, National Hot Tea Month, National Oatmeal Month are all options as well.
And so many more. Highly recommend you celebrate what you want when you want – you don’t need a day, week or month for it.
NOTE FROM ANN: The pictures of the Northern Lights from this past week were taken by Rachel Strong. She was up early on Jan 20th and captures some amazing shots. The blues aren’t normally seen! Low speed, high drag this week. The work behind the scenes for the annual meeting is done. And there is no band width left in my brain for much of a story this week. I can tell you I got stuck in our driveway this week. Tuesday morning, I was leaving for work. Burt had been out of town and was returning later in the day. Since I was doing morning chores, I thought I would be smart and pull the van down the drive towards the barn to save some time. Didn’t drive all the way down so I wouldn’t get stuck. Got stuck anyways. Did all of the basic work arounds to get out of the driveway. Couldn’t get the tractor out of the barn to pull the van out (Well – I could have, but I would have had to go in the house, suit up and drive the tractor through the pasture and down the main drive to get to the van). I got cold and angry (I kept saying ‘mad’ in verbally telling the story. My Grandmother (an English teacher) would tell me ‘only dogs and Englishmen are mad’.) Ended up working from home for a couple of hours. Had a hard time looking outside because I could see the van from the window. I would get angry all over again. At least I wasn’t getting cold all over again. Burt arrived home. We did all of the same things I did before all over again. This time with more enthusiasm. And – since there were two of us – could tell which tire was spinning and what was working where. Another 15 minutes and the van was free. Ugh.
May you stay warm and not be stuck this week (spiritually, figuratively, literally – whichever way works for you).
