FUN FACTS – Jul 20th is National Ice Cream Day (3rd Sun of Jul) CELEBRATE!
I didn’t have room in the bulletin to let you know about all of the ice cream in the immediate area. Country Store and Minocqua Popcorn shop in downtown Eagle River has ice cream. The Bull Market (now open) has gelato. Eagle River has Peanuts (check out the Artscape banner in front of Peanuts – it is a photograph our neighbor/cousin took). Lick-a-Dee Splitz in Three Lakes also has excellent ice cream AND next to Pi Pizza in Three Lakes is a self-service soft serve ice cream bar with a toppings bar AND a variety of ‘whips’ each day. (Also Pi Pizza has the most excellent baked chicken wings). Or you can hit up Dairy Queen or McDonald’s for “ice cream” but I highly recommend any of the other options instead.
NOTES FROM ANN: I know I’ve mentioned it before – but I just have to talk about it again. One of the things I marvel at here in the Northwoods is the ‘lost light’. It happens at sunset, when you are in the woods and all of a sudden a splash of light appears on a tree or on the ground. It always surprises me how light is able to still penetrate the woods at dusk and splash the side of a tree or illuminate a branch.
That same joy and surprise occurred yesterday at Paula’s service. Paula’s Aunt Judy and Cousin Teresa came from Chico, CA. I knew they were coming (kind of like the sunset) but meeting them in person was like seeing the sudden splash of light.
Then – after the service – a parishioner from Paula’s previous church spoke to me. She mentioned how impressed she was with the service and the luncheon. I admit – I did brag a bit about how well Prince of Peace puts together a meal.
Thank you all for being the extra bit of light.
“God is the light shining in the midst of darkness, not to deny that there is darkness in the world but to reassure us that we do not have to be afraid of the darkness because darkness will always yield to light.” –Harold S. Kushner
