Celebrate Christmas in July while supporting our Endowment Fund!
Throughout the month of July, a special red, white, and blue Christmas tree will be displayed in the Narthex, beautifully adorned with handmade ornaments created by members of our church family.
We invite you to choose a special ornament and make a donation to the Endowment Fund. Your gift will help grow this important ministry, ensuring ongoing support for a variety of community organizations, outreach programs, and local resources that make a difference in the lives of others.

How Did Christmas in July Start in America? – You can hear those sleigh bells jingling (and ring tingle tingling, too) all the way back to France in 1892 when the phrase “Christmas in July” was first used in the opera Werther. When translated into English, a character warns: “When you sing Christmas in July, you rush the season.” [No joke – Hobby Lobby – I’m talking to you!!]
But why do we celebrate Christmas in July in America? Well, you can thank Keystone Camp, an all-girls summer camp in Brevard, North Carolina, for that. Back in 1933, the whimsical co-founder Fannie Holt requested the celebration, complete with a group of carolers, a Christmas tree, and even Santa Claus. The tradition is still alive and well, several generations later.
In 1940, the movie Christmas in July was released, bringing nationwide prominence to the phrase. More events soon followed: Churches began programs to collect gifts for their worldwide missions, and then World War II kicked it into high gear.
Why Is It Christmas in July Instead of June? If you think about it, Half Christmas (as some may refer to it) should actually be June 25. That’s the six-month mark of the year after December 25. July is actually a much slower time period for sales. There is no major holiday between 4th of July and Labor Day. So, the theory goes that starting in the early 1950s, it was a way to boost sales and kick off the back-to-school shopping period. Though there is no set date, it is normally celebrated on or around July 25. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good July!

When you come into the church near the Fellowship Hall – you will see the now official Church Calendar. All of the committees have been assigned a color. If you want to see what is going on in the church at a glance – this is the place to see it. I pulled the shade down behind the calendar for a couple of reasons – 1) if someone is staring at the calendar, people having a snack in the Fellowship Hall won’t feel like a goldfish at feeding time. and 2) it will cut down on the glare.
I’m not going to lie – I cheered when I came into church this morning and saw that the calendar was still up. It is a bit ridiculous to feel victorious when you are in a battle with an inanimate object – but this is my life – at least for today. The third time was a charm in this case.
I did decide to order cookies from New Glarus. I really hope they show up in time. Though it wouldn’t be the worse thing in the world to be stuck with extra pfeffernusse and anise springerli. I’ll have a back up plan in case they don’t arrive.
I am so glad to have our puppy around the house. Dogs can teach you a lot about living. Lately there has been a lot happening to my inner circle. A lot of commotion, difficult decisions and emotion. Things that I cannot help them with. Some of the things are things I have already gone through. I know what is ahead of them. Nothing I can say or do is going to change the outcome and/or make the journey any easier. Those paths have to be walked alone. There are guardrails (ie other people who care) but the path is theirs. Ugh. Leinie (the puppy – tho some days the beer helps out a lot too) brings me back to the basics. Joy of discovery. Morning cuddles. The absolute uncaring of making mistakes and all too willing to move forward after a whoops.
