MANY THANKS – to Adam Matyska for leading us in worship today.

BLOOD PRESSURE – blood pressure checks today! Thank you Mark and Catherine.

HUMDINGER? HOW ABOUT A POPDINGER! You can sing and ding, but if you can’t sing – you can still ding! Join Sherry Van Lishout, Ann Carlson and probably Rachel Strong and other dinger-wanna-be’s to learn the song “Good King Wenceslas’ (who likes Worcestershire Sauce) on the chimes. Chimes look like big tuning forks with hammers on them, and when you see your note highlighted yellow on a piece of paper, you hit the air with the chime and it rings a pretty note for you. Easy and fun! Come to as many practices as you can after Fellowship on Sundays throughout November and December. Sign up sheet is on the Front Office door.

10:30 – 11:15 am on Sundays, Nov 9, 16, 23, 30, Dec 7, 14 and 21. This is for the Christmas Eve service Dec 24 at 5:30 pm.

GRAB A CUP? GRAB TWO ! – we need assistance with coffee hour. There is a sign-up sheet in the Fellowship Hall. Please consider assisting with set-up or clean-up.

ENDOWMENT GRANTS – Help the Endowment Team use our Endowment Fund as effectively as possible to enhance the mission outreach of Prince of Peace. As the fund’s custodian, the team is looking for ways to help the church ministry in the community. If you would like to offer a suggestion to the Endowment Team or financially contribute, get a request form from the narthex, the church office or the website. A donation of any amount will help immensely and be much appreciated. Recently our endowment made a contribution of $1,000 to the Children’s Museum, $250 to Leathernecks of the North, and $1,000 to Praise in the Pines.

KITCHEN CLEAN UP – LAST CALL – If you’ve brought a dish to church in the last year or so and aren’t sure if you remembered to take it home – check out the table in the Fellowship Hall. There is currently quite the collection of ‘lost’ items. Claim yours today!

CHRISTIAN WOMEN’s LUNCHEON – is on again for November. Sue Waggoner is the hostess. Lunch will be at the Pine Knot in St. Germain on Nov 12 at 11:30. Please RSVP to gabby999@sbcglobel.net. This will be the last luncheon for the CWL in 2025. No turkeys allowed.

UPDATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY/ANNIVERSARY SONG -We will include it several more times until we get this down. Sing to the tune of “Happy Birthday”.

Happy Birthday to you

Happy Anniversary to you

May the Lord Jesus Keep You

Ever faithful and true!

THE EXTRA BIT – this week no fun facts, but instead, two poems – one from Hafiz and one from Kahlil Gibran. Please feel free to tear the last page off and take it home with you. (Or take the entire bulletin – both options are acceptable)

Deepening The Wonder – Hafiz

Death is a favor to us,

But our scales have lost their balance.

The impermanence of the body

Should give us great clarity,

Deepening the wonder in our senses and eyes

Of this mysterious existence we share

And are surely just traveling through.

If I were in the Tavern tonight,

Hafiz would call for drinks

And as the Master poured, I would be reminded

That all I know of life and myself is that

We are just a midair flight of golden wine

Between His Pitcher and His Cup.

If I were in the Tavern tonight,

I would buy freely for everyone in this world

Because our marriage with the Cruel Beauty

Of time and space cannot endure very long.

Death is a favor to us,

But our minds have lost their balance.

The miraculous existence and impermanence of

Form

Always makes the illumined ones

Laugh and sing.

On Death ~ Kahlil Gibran

Then Almitra spoke, saying, We would ask now of Death. And he said:

You would know the secret of death. But how shall you find it unless you seek it in the heart of life?

The owl whose night-bound eyes are blind unto the day cannot unveil the mystery of light.

If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life.

For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one.

In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond;

And like seeds dreaming beneath the snow your heart dreams of spring.

Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.

Your fear of death is but the trembling of the shepherd when he stands before the king whose hand is to be laid upon him in honour.

Is the shepherd not joyful beneath his trembling, that he shall wear the mark of the king?

Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling?

For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?

And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered.

Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.

And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.

And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.

NOTES FROM ANN – there are two perfect pictures from Reformation Sunday – taken down by the river – so appropriate to share on All Saints’ Day. Thank you to Eric Rasmussen for sharing what he saw. Then – there is a picture of Sherry Van Lishout and myself – showing off the wonders of the chime. Become a PoP-Dinger and join us in preparing for our Christmas Eve service (yes – I know – it is time to start. Seems like just yesterday we looking forward to Easter).

Last night Burt and I were watching the end of Game 5 of the World Series – when we saw a flash at the window. It was reminiscent of our old house – we would get flashes of headlights splashed across our window. There was a brief hesitation on both of our parts, because sometimes you don’t want to say you saw something in case the other person didn’t see it too. I mentioned it. He confirmed the sighting. It made me uneasy because I didn’t know what caused it. It would be strange if someone were in our yard with a flashlight. Burt fell asleep – no issues. Not me. I roamed the house for a bit – peering into the darkness. Finally I realized there wasn’t a way for me to find out what the flash was.

In the morning I looked at my phone and found out that approximately 10:15 pm there was a meteor sighted – a bright green flash against the sky – low on the horizon – towards the north. Due to the foliage being thinned out for the fall – I’m 99.5% sure that is what we “saw”.

A lot of times we don’t receive the answer. Sometimes we do.

Hope your week is filled with surprises – some with answers – some without.
