QUILTERS UNTIE! – I mean unite to tie. Tie one on with the quilting group as they assemble quilts. Meet every first and third Wed of the month 9:30 to 11:30 am.
SEPTEMBER MOVIE NIGHT – Sep 30. We will be showing HAMILTON! Don’t worry – a copy of the lyrics will be on hand. And we will have the movie close-captioned.
PET BLESSING – is scheduled for Oct 4 – bring your scaley, furry, fluffy, feathered friends to be blessed by Pastor Grant. We will paws before worship to bestow good tidings on our pets.
ENNEAGRAM – not quite a telegram, but it does help you in communication. Join Pastor Grant on Sep 29, Tue, from 4-9 pm at the Plum Lake Library in Saynor. Presenter Steve Spilde will be leading the conversation. The enneagram is a powerful tool for understanding ourselves and others, and refers to nine different personality styles. GET READY – Prince of Peace will be hosting “Leaving a Legacy of Faith” for churches in our conference on Thu, Oct 15 from 11:30a to 1:30p. Learn practical ways to care for your family while supporting the ministries you love including will, beneficiaries, powers of attorney and tax wise giving through trusts, CDs and IRAs.
GOD’S WORK – OUR HANDS SUNDAY! We are excited about our outreach project that involves all of the congregation. We have collected Socks and Cuddly Teddy Bears!! Adult and Youth socks will be distributed to the homeless shelters in the Northwoods and the Teddy Bears will be given to the “Foster Closet” for foster children when they are placed and to the Eagle River Fire and Police Departments for comfort for children on calls that affect them.
Today is the last day for collecting socks and Teddy Bears.

QUILTS DRAPED ON THE PEWS – These quilts were made by our Quilters Untie group. They have been uniting twice a month this year to create these masterpieces. The quilts will be sent to Lutheran World Relief to provide comfort around the world.
OCTOBER DIRECTORY RELEASE – A new directory will be printed and available on Oct 1. Yep – right before Ann is gone for almost the entire month. At least that is the plan – recently her travel plans haven’t quite happened. If you have an updated address, new email, changed your phone number, please let the front office know. FYI – the Brunners have moved, the Lakings will be moving. Eppings haven’t left yet but will be leaving. And we still miss the Waskows!
HAND CHIME DINGERS PRACTIC SUNDAYS 10:15 AM IN SEP & OCT- Twelve people are needed to play hand chimes for a special music song on Reformation Sunday October 25 during 9:00am worship. Meet Sundays during fellowship about 10:15 to 11:00am to practice in the conference room. We are learning “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” and hopefully you can make most of the practices. Talk to Sherry (715 614 3543) with any questions or just show up! Practices are 10:15am Sundays September 13th, 20th, 27th and October 4th, 11th, and 18th. We will also practice at 8:00am on Sunday October 25th, the day we play the song during worship.
THE PRINCE OF PEACE CHOIR IS ALWAYS OPEN TO NEW SINGERS! – Join us for practices on Wednesdays from 4:30 to 5:30pm in the sanctuary. We will sing a song for special music during 9am worship services on October 4th, November 1st, and December 6th and so we will also rehearse at 8am on those three Sundays as well. You are welcome to join us however your schedule allows, even if you can’t be there to sing all three of those Sundays/Songs! Talk to Sherry (715 614 3543) with any questions or just show up! Paper schedules can be found by the doorway near the sacristy/choir area in the sanctuary.
FUN FACT – Today is considered Rally Sunday. A Sunday used to commemorate the start of a Sunday School year. We use it to highlight God’s Work – Our Hands. Which was started in 2013. An annual day of service celebrating the church’s commitment to serving and loving our neighbor. The motto was adopted the same year to celebrate the ELCA’s 25 anniversary. A hymn titled “God’s Work – Our Hands” was written by Wayne Wold and was selected in 2019 to be the song for the day. This is also a day for the blessing of our quilts. This outreach ministry was started by Lutherans at the end of WWII. Lutheran World Relief tackles global poverty by helping people adapt to the challenges that threaten their livelihoods and well-being.
The challenge given by Lutherans and the ELCA has been readily accepted by our congregation. We flutter our butterfly wings in hopes of creating gusts of hope and change.
NOTES FROM ANN – So many things.
Sep 11 is tomorrow. Please take a moment to remember. I know some of you have been around for two horrific attacks on our Nation – Pearl Harbor and 9/11. I know how much of an impact 9/11 has had on me and my life’s direction.
The picture at the top of the page is from Patty & Eric Rasmussen – I’ll copy and paste what Patty wrote as it is much better than anything I can write: “Since our last storm, Eric has been cutting tree “cookies” from a fallen tree and preparing them for a wood block relief print. It isn’t as easy as one (me) would think.
He got a permit from the forestry office, and we went scouting for potential “cookies” in the Nicolet. With this one, he used red printmaking ink and hand burnished the details.
It reminded me of a red balloon : ) With just the addition of a short black line (not permanent), it became celebratory and buoyant : ) and it reminded us of a beautiful 34 minute silent movie called “The Red Balloon” from 1956. Trees have history, seasons, and chapters. Just like us, trees have fingerprints, only their’s are on the inside.”
Just beautiful. As always – we appreciate the sharing of your creativity and perspective. And now I have to watch the movie!
The other pictures are from our sanctuary. Not even going to lie – some of those Teddy Bears I tested for hugability. And they passed with flying colors. And some of those Teddy Bears – it was hard to not sneak them into the office. Just in case there was an teddy bear emergency.
Check out the banner WE made last year! So thankful for Marlys – finishing it off so beautifully. (I mean – the header and footer being one color of the paint – and then the text on top one color and the text on the bottom the other color – I so love things that tie in together so wonderfully!)
And the panoramic picture of the quilts – as always – I am humbled by the talent and grace this congregation shows on a regular basis.
We have had some crazy beautiful days lately. Though I would love to have some more rain. So grateful for this life in the Northwoods.
The change of seasons definitely has a different rhythm up here. Starts at the end of July when the barn swallows leave. Then the ferns start to turn. And the hummingbirds leave. The maples change way too early. And for me – at home – the sun hits the house differently – and my prisms start sending rainbows dancing through the house. Rainbows showed up yesterday. I don’t need Sep 22 to tell me Autumn has arrived. My rainbows already told me. (Fun story about a rainbow in the Bible – have you heard it?) ((That was a joke))
