NOTE FROM ANN – so many pictures I can share this week. Some are from our project from last Sunday, some are from the adventures our members are having and the top picture is a picture of the quilts created this past year. Many thanks to everyone who showed up for movie night. It was our biggest gathering yet. I think the final count was 31. I was getting nervous because our event on FaceBook showed 145 people interested. We prepared for 80. MANY MANY thanks to Mike and Sandy Bishop who showed at 8:30 this morning to help me put everything – sort of – back to normal. Just in time for Marlys and Dave Tipple to show up and redecorate and rearrange (a bit) for Fall. The Fellowship Hall looks amazing.
It has been 24 years since 9/11. As with most of you – the day is permanently etched in my memory and was the driving force for decisions that altered my life in good and bad ways. I called the Navy recruiter on 9/12 and was back in uniform 12/18. Those of us who were alive and able at the time – all did something.
I’ll share – again – the poem that means so much to me. This was written during the Vietnam War. He wrote it in Jan of 1970 and was KIA in March:
If you are able, save them a place inside of you
and save one backward glance when you are leaving
for the places they can no longer go.
Be not ashamed to say you loved them,
though you may or may not have always.
Take what they have left and what they have taught you
with their dying and keep it with your own.
And in that time when men decide and feel safe
to call the war insane, take one moment to embrace
those gentle heroes you left behind.
